This is a wonderful seaside property that is set high on a hill overlooking the fishing port of St Vaast-La-Hougue on the Cherbourg Peninsula. This 18th century farmhouse which is fully renovated is only 10 minutes away from Jonville beach and within walking distance of a local village and its bistro. It is also well situated to visit all of Normandy’s landmarks such as the World War II landing beaches, the Bayeux Tapestry and Mont St Michel. Once a working farm, this traditional granite house has been recently converted into an attractive family home, with its original charm left intact. The old exposed wooden beams are over 100 years old and the massive granite fireplace blend seamlessly with the modern floor-to-ceiling picture windows. The windows allow one to profit from the surrounding views; the shimmering sea with the harbour of St. Vaast and its famous towers on one side and Normandy’s rolling countryside with the typical small fields and high hedges on the other side. This region of Normandy known as Val de Saire boasts a beautiful coastline with islands, forts, rock pools and fine sandy beaches where key historical events took place both in medieval and modern times which attracts visitors from all over the world. The famous World War II D-Day beaches of The Allies forces, the war cemeteries and museums are all within driving distance. Bayeux is only one hour’s drive from the house and would make a lovely day trip. If you like water sports then you are in luck as they are all available at nearby in Jonville beach and St Vaast-Le-Hougue, including windsurfing, sailing and yachting. Another nice visit is Cite’ de la Mer which is an interesting high-tech Sea museum in Cherbourg, which features its own submarine. A trip to the Unesco site of Tatihou Island by amphibious bus/boat is also recommended; here you will be able to visit the tower and enjoy striking sea views. With a Friday arrival, guests staying at this property will also have the chance to visit the fascinating weekly market held in St. Vaast every Saturday and sample some local produce.
